Kitchen backsplashes are often overlooked, as a quick refresher they can make your kitchen look fresh and guess what it won’t break the bank. A backsplash can be the focal point of a kitchen and there are different options. A backsplash can expand the perimeter of the entire kitchen or you can do an accent wall.

Tiles are Popular!

You may have been popular in high school, but who would have know that tiles have groupies.  Don't believe me? Check out these facts that you need to know!

Sydney Opera House.jpg

1,056,000 Swedish Tiles

That’s right! The famous Sydney Opera House sails are made of tiles. Each year over 10 million people from all over the world travel to see this beautiful house. Pretty popular, I’d say.

Great Wall of China.jpg

13,171 Miles of Tile

The Great Wall of China was built with stones, bricks, tiles and earth as well as of wooden material. The wall was completed in 1644 and it took more than 2,000 years to build. It is one of the world’s top tourist destinations with over 4 million visitors each year.

If you find yourself in a situation where six fully grown African Bush Elephants come trampling through your house; your ceramic tiles will survive! Ceramic tiles are resistant and strong! They can withstand between 22 and 44 tons per square inch. No wonder this is a popular tile! Impressive!!

Is Your House Ready For Winter?
House in Winter.jpeg

When we think of getting ready for winter, we make sure we have our gloves, hat, scarf, deicer and so much more! Raise your hand if most of the time you can only find one glove? Glad I’m not alone. Focus Deidre! Okay! What about your precious (expensive) baby? Your house! Unless someone can make a blanket to wrap around your house (I know you are seriously thinking about it) then there are some things we must do!

Step 1: Plumbing

Who really thinks about their pipes until something goes wrong? You do? That is awesome! The rest of us can start with draining water from outdoor faucets and garden hoses. Inside the house, look for “problem” pipes that are prone to freezing and consider using heat tape to keep them warm. Everyone in the family should know how to turn off the water at the source.

Step 2: Fireplace & Heating System

Be sure to have your chimney inspected by a professional (not your friends cousins uncle’s neighbor) before the first frost. Also, have a professional perform a routine check of the heating system and as an added benefit pull out the vacuum to clean the vents and other heating components. Check your furnace filter; it may need replacing.

Step 3: Seal the Leaks

Install storm windows and doors. Add or replace worn weather stripping around the doors and windows and caulk any gaps. If doorstops are worn, replace them. If any pipes or ducts travel through an exterior wall, be sure to use caulking and weather-stripping around all entry points. These steps will block any potential entry points for cold air.

Have a safe winter with lots of snowball fights!!
